Washington, D.C.

I wasn't going to post, because, as Mike said yesterday, we didn't do anything today but travel to just outside of Washington, D.C.  A campground in College Park, Maryland to be specific.  But I am up watching the Tigers try to advance to the American League Championship series so thought I would be productive.  It was a yucky day -  rainy and cold.   One picture I took was of the "Welcome to Maryland" sign and I had to snap between swipes of the windshield wipers and you really can't see it through the raindrops.

We saw more color today.  The rolling hillsides are covered in trees, but they are muted.  Not the fiery reds or brilliant oranges.  We saw those colors, just subdued.  When we stopped for gas - Ok, I should say fuel because we fill the tank with diesel - I asked the girl at the checkout about the colors.  She said we are probably a few days late but the trees never did get the rich colors this year.  She didn't know why.   I guess she would have to be a botanist to explain that!  Still pretty to look at, though.

We passed a dairy farm that encouraged us with large black letters painted on the barn to "DRINK MILK".    And then a small rental motorhome went by us with "RV There Yet?" painted on the back.  Those kind of things make me smile.

About 30 miles from the campground, Mike asked me to bring the address up on the iPad GPS.  (he already has it on the RV GPS) He likes to double-check to be sure.  The older we get, he will have me plug addresses into our phone GPS, too!

One good thing about traveling in colder weather - Mike doesn't want to wash the motorhome every other day.  You have to be thankful for the little things. . .

The same rules from our spring trip apply, so when looking for a place to get dinner and watch the Tigers, a nearby Buffalo Wild Wings was off the table.  (we try to patronize local establishments and not eat at chain restaurants).  A little research took us to Big Play Sports Bar and Grill.  When we got there, we realized it was across the street from the campus of the University of Maryland.  Even in the dark, we could see it is a beautiful campus, with classic architecture.

More rain forecasted for Friday but hopefully won't hinder our plans too much.  The expected truckers bombarding the D.C. area in protest may be another story. . .
